The Brief & Obstacles
The Problem:
This project was an immediate safety hazard. Doreen had a raised terrace sitting nearly a full meter above the garden, but it completely lacked a retaining wall or safety barrier. To make matters worse, the old slabs were actively rocking back and forth when walked on, and the existing steps were a severely narrow 30cm wide. It was an incredibly dangerous setup that made accessing the garden an everyday risk.
The Precision Build
The Solution:
We performed a complete structural and safety overhaul over three weeks. We fully excavated the failing terrace and engineered a brand-new, load-bearing masonry retaining wall using premium solid brickwork to permanently secure the 1-meter drop. We then laid a rock-solid Indian Sandstone patio on a compacted sub-base to eliminate any movement. Finally, we removed the dangerous 30cm steps and constructed safely proportioned, wide brick steps leading down to the lawn, giving Doreen total peace of mind and safe access to her garden.
