We only collect the details you give us, plus standard website data. We use them to reply to your enquiry, quote for your project, and run our business. We never sell your data. You're always in control of it, and you can ask us to show you what we hold or delete it at any time.

For data protection law, Modern Tradesman Ltd is the "data controller" — the business responsible for your personal information. We're registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) under reference [ICO number to confirm].

1. Who we are

When you fill in a form on our site — the contact form or the instant estimate — you give us details such as:

Your name
Your email address
Your phone number (if you choose to add it)
The type of project you're interested in (patio, driveway, garden, and so on)
Anything you tell us in the message box or about your project

Like most websites, ours collects some information automatically through cookies and similar technology:

Your device and browser type
Your approximate location (from your IP address)
Which pages you visit and how you got here
How you interact with the site

If you reach us through a Google or Facebook/Instagram ad, those platforms may tell us that an ad led to your visit. We don't receive your name or contact details this way — just anonymous campaign information.

2. The information we collect

We use your information to:

Reply to your enquiry and quote for your project. This is so we can take steps you've asked for before entering into a contract, and because it's in our legitimate interest to run our business and respond to people who get in touch.
Deliver your project if you go ahead, including arranging the consultation, proposal and the work itself. This is to perform our contract with you.
Keep records for accounting, tax and legal reasons. This is to meet our legal obligations.
Improve our website and advertising, using the cookie and analytics data in section 5. This is in our legitimate interest, and where the law requires it, only with your consent.

We do not send marketing emails to people who fill in our forms unless you've asked us to.

3. How we use your information, and why we're allowed to

We don't sell your personal information, and we never will. We do use a small number of trusted companies to run our business, and your information passes through some of their systems:

Our website and forms — hosted on Wix, and form submissions are routed through an automation tool (Make) into our customer system.
Our customer records (CRM) — HubSpot, where we keep track of enquiries and projects.
Email and files — Google Workspace, for emailing you and storing project documents.
Advertising and analytics — Google and Meta (Facebook/Instagram), to understand how our ads and website are performing.

Each of these only handles your information to provide their service to us, under their own data protection terms. We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights.

4. Who we share it with

Cookies are small files saved on your device. We use them to:

Make the website work properly (essential cookies)
Understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it (analytics)
Measure and improve our advertising on Google and Meta (Facebook/Instagram), including showing our ads to people who've visited before

You're in control. You can accept or reject non-essential cookies through the banner when you arrive, change your mind any time, and block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Turning off non-essential cookies won't stop you using the site.

5. Cookies and tracking

We keep your information only as long as we need it:

Enquiries that don't turn into projects — we keep these for a reasonable period in case you come back to us, then remove them.
Customer and project records — we keep these for as long as you're a customer and for a period afterwards, to meet our legal and accounting duties (usually six years for financial records).

When we no longer need your information, we delete it or make it anonymous.

6. How long we keep it

Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:

Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
Ask us to correct anything that's wrong
Ask us to delete your information
Ask us to limit or stop using it
Object to us using it for our legitimate interests or for marketing
Ask for your information in a portable format

7. Your rights

We take sensible steps to protect your information and only let trusted people and trusted suppliers access it. No system is ever completely secure, but we work to keep yours safe and to put things right quickly if something goes wrong.

8. Keeping your information safe

Some of the companies we use (for example for our CRM, email or advertising) are based in, or store data in, the United States or other countries. When your information is handled outside the UK, we make sure it's protected by appropriate safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

9. Sending information outside the UK

We'll update this page when our practices change. The "last updated" date at the top always tells you the current version.
